Endorphins Rock [09 Jun 2009|03:56am]
I meant to update yesterday whilst at work but got too tired so I'm doing it now before i get too tired. Not that much happened today but, barring the inability to find body wash (I don't know where Target hides it) and abandonment by good internet, today was a pretty awesome day. It all began when I slept for 2-3 hours at work (shh don't tell), not all in one shot though, I'm not that bad. Finished all my work with about fifteen minutes to spare so I dawdled a bit and washed the back sliding door until nine. Sat and talked to my mom for a half hour while she got snack and then peaced out to go sleep at home (I have ear plugs now so instead I can just disappear downstairs and not waste gas). I set my alarm for 12:15 so I could go pick up my mom on time for once and was quite surprised when it was my internal alarm clock that woke me up at 12:52 and not DC101. Turns out the sound on my clock was turned all the way down, when did that happen? Anyways, after stealing some lumber from work and getting more sleep, I declared that we (Mom, Darwin and I) would be going to the park. Not only would Darwin get a walk, but Mom and I would take turns riding the bike like it was intended, instead of the cobweb magnet it has been for the past year. Thus began our modern epic: "Getting the Tires Blown Up". Seriously should not have been as difficult as it was but it turns out that car tires and bike tires have different sized nozzles, who knew. Such was the reason for the trip to target where they only seemed to have Schwinn brand air pumps which I chalked up to fate (my mom has a Schwinn bike). Returning bike pump in hand and earplugs in purse, we quickly blew up the tires and then set to the task of loading that big ass bike into the back of the car; we have a bike rack (unattached at the moment) but by now it was already 6 pm and we wanted to get moving. Upon getting to the park my mom decided that she was too tired to ride the bike so exercising the Schwinn was left all up to me, someone who hasn't really ridden a bike in about.....nine years? Somewhere in there. I felt like a kid for about the first lap around the park just with better balance, I could stay up but for the life of me, could not ride in a straight line. I must have looked pretty funny but I got better the more I went around, nothing fancy but I never fell down, quite proud of that. But definitely the best part of the day was after we got home, when I got a nice rush of endorphins for my trouble. I just felt so happy. For the first time this week it didn't matter that I don't have an internship, that I'm probably going to be graduating with little to no work experience in a career field with little to no job openings ever, that I should have gone with a Management major instead of Film minor, that the house was a mess, I just wondered if I thought I could make it to the sidewalk up the street near 7-11 without getting run over tomorrow. I'm also going to try and go visit the Curves gym in Kentlands after I get off work tomorrow and figure how much it's going to cost for my Mom and I to join. Time for more water.

Ok, no more wallowing [06 Jun 2009|08:42pm]
This past week has felt so long. Mainly cause I did absolutely nothing. There was of course plenty that I could be doing but the sheer amount of stuff in the living room was making me feel claustraphobic and sapped all motivation right out of me. Awesome. Well, while sitting downstairs eating out of my black bean soup bread bowl (yum), I decided/told myself that I would stop wallowing in my inability to get stuff done and actually do something. I'm having visions of mounds upon mounds of boxes and trash bags full of stuff for the veterans to come pick up. Yay.

Writer's Block: It Sounds Better When You Say It [06 Jun 2009|08:35pm]

No matter what language you speak, you've probably come across words or phrases in another language that sound better than their equivalents in your native tongue. What's your favorite word or phrase in a foreign language?

I do believe it to be the same favorite word of most of those who take low level french. Le pamplemousse.

When did this house become so small, so cramped, and so cluttered? Please hold your snickering and mumblings of "it always has been silly," because it really hasn't been. Well, to me it hasn't been. I used to be able to get along quite fine in this house, it was messy but we got along. But really since returning, this place has become unbearable! There is stuff everywhere and nowhere for it to go! Now, being the person with large amounts of summer related time on her hands, I decided to spearhead the effort and try to get the backroom in the basement clear of anything un-craft related so that it could become my mom's private craft area. Once everything was out of there and the room organized, all the random craft things from all over the house could be brought in and out of the dinning room, kitchen, bathroom, her room, the office (you get the picture). Doing this is where I hit my first snag, expensive childhood toys aside, there is the bed. My old bed. Originally, it was brought down when I changed beds from a full to a twin, I guess so that that room could be turned into a guest room. It was only used in that capacity once and has since stayed upright, waiting for its Murphy bed-like day to shine. Now, call me crazy but what part of craft room which my mother insists be her own with a lock on the door so she can have an organized space, sings guest bed. Especially when we have a sofa bed that, suprise suprise, can never be opened up because of all the junk. Anyways, I suggested we get rid of the bed, thinking naively that my parents would also see it as a waste of space. Nope, they kepts saying how it could be unfolded for guests, because you know we have relatives banging down the door left and right to stay with us. Relatives who could never sleep on a sofa bed or the couch. I eventually broakered a deal on this front though, if i can mend the air mattress, we can get rid of the bed. So, about a week ago, I went looking for the air mattress and found it thrown onto the floor of the laundry room under a bunch of boxes. Awesome. I'm also forseeing a fight on the other air mattress. An air mattress that EVERYONE who has slept on the thing has said was wildly uncomfortable. But with all those guests knocking down our door to stay with us might need a place to sleep! God forbid our adult family members spring for a hotel if they show up with all their buddies. The most we ever have up here are my one uncle and two cousins. 1. Sofa bed, 2. Upstairs sofa, 3. Air Matresss once I've fixed it. Done, in the event an aunt should show up as well, kick a kid onto the floor or sleep on my chair all laid out. We are not hosting our entire family in this house, we don't need all this unnessisary bedding!

I am nowhere near being done with this rant but it's 1:42 and i'm tired. So, in summary, I thinking I'm coming accross two basic problems here:

1. Deep-seated childhood issues about keeping things

2. The Fact that my parents have not gone through all their stuff in a very long time. I'm learning that my parents give away in cycles, one round gets rid of some stuff, go back 6 months - 1 year later, get rid of more stuff.

To be continued....

Writer's Block: Place of Residence [04 Jun 2009|12:51pm]

Describe your dream house (even if it's not a house).

View other answers

After seeing Angela do this a couple of times, I've decided to give this a try. Here ya go Jen, a real update.

Surprise surprise, my dream house would probably be a historic house (close your mouths everyone, I know it's a shocker). I just really like the idea of living in a place that has seen more than one family live and grow. So no 100 year old location of an axe murder. No thank you.

I really want a house that lends itself it just hanging out, big family room, big kitchen, big dinning area. Now of course, my idea of big doesn't mean that it's comfortable for like fifteen people. Just big enough for two or three people to maneuver around without crowding each other. I might even experiment with making the family room and living room the same room! shock shock. I realized this while thinking, as far as I can remember, baring some apartments, we've always had a separate living room and family room. Family room being where the tv and video game consoles were. But i digress. I also really want a wrap around porch, or at the very least just a porch where the roof juts out over top.

I am also a fan of something with two stories, I like having the neat little separation of sleeping and living areas, something I really don't like about our house now. Oh! and an attic, a functional attic, not the little crawl space of an attic we have here that can barely support the weight of the roof. The attic is the place for things you and to keep but not see everyday (baby clothes, maple blocks, Christmas decorations) instead of in a basement with very little practical storage space. That wasn't a little rant, nooooo not at all.

Most of all, I just want space, like I said, I'm not talking about mansion-sized space, I do want a nice and cozy atmosphere, just not too cozy. Oh, and a yard, I will not have neighbors six inches from my house. No.

[ mood | sleepy ]

It is, right now, 5:37, but will most likely be far later by the time I actually post this since I currently have no internet and plan to sleep quite a bit when I get home. I'm at work until nine but have some time to kill before six which is when I actually start doing work, unloading the dishwasher, swifering, and the like. Tonight's been a pretty good night so far, I think I've been able to will the residents to stay in their rooms by sheer force of fatigue. I watched a fair share of the shows I've been trying to watch all week but due to the extreme failure of my own computer, my mom's came to the rescue. I had....around five or six shows loaded, Jekyll failed me yet again (Episode 3 seems to have trouble comprehending the concept of loading completely) as did Stargate SG1 I wasn't half way into the episode like I am with Jekyll. Although I still have Supernatural loaded, I don't think I'll be watching that one tonight. When I get really tired I get paranoid and start seeing things out of the corner of my eye, so a show about ghosts is the last thing I need.

But back to the extreme failure of my computer. So, my computer's been acting really funny all week, if I left it running for five or six hours It would begin to slow down and mess up. It didn't use to have this problem and needless to say it was a bit annoying. Especially since it's the kind of problem you can't just shut down or restart to fix, it needs to shut down for at least an hour. It needs to be stone cold before it's at peak processing which leads me to believe that it's a heat issue. So anyways, it was being stupid but then the computer had to go and make itself a dunce. I really don't know how it happened because I don't remember doing it, but somehow, I deleted a good chunk of my My Documents folder. The good stuff too, my pictures, videos, and music. After panicking for a good minute and a half, I got my dad on the job and looking for a undelete program that did not have to install itself (harder than you'd think). I proceeded to recover a good amount of my stuff to my great relief. I'm not to clear on the damage, I got back most of the files but some of them were corrupted. I have everything fixed or abandoned except for my pictures, videos, and music. Pictures shouldn't be too difficult, seeing as how I post next to everything on facebook and videos are going to require some trips to james but is fairly intact. Music is going to take a while, everything's jumbled up, moved around, and some of it may be missing. I have everything as it's supposed to be on my iPod, so I know what's supposed to be there. My computer sure picked a fantastic time to freak out on me.

Happy St. Patrick's Day [17 Mar 2008|08:23pm]

So, classes for next year went online today and it is currently a land of annoying trying to come up with classes for the Spring. First of all, I believe Dr. Norman is leaving after this semester which means there are virtually no CWES courses aside from the three mainstays, two of which I've taken and the other I'm not going to take until senior year. Anyways, In its place I have an English class, for now, Victorian Aesthetics which sounds fun. I also have a film class picked out all nice and easy. The history classes, however, are providing me with the most trouble. I need to take two 300 level classes in the Spring and the three I was thinking about all ended up being at the same time ::sigh:: Plus not many of them seem that interesting............................Well I guess I'll just have to hold and and see.

Not kidding, I'm legitamitely mad that we still have classes. Walking home last night there was a sheet of ice on the sidewalk, I know I'm a baby when it comes to ice but that's just dangerous. I'm so tired of this whole residential college does not cancel class for ice bullshit. Just because we live close does not mean it is safe outside! It just means that one day someone is going to fall and sue the school. Then where will they be

It's cold!!! 20 degrees but feels like 9 to be exact, but it's still better than yesterday when there was wind too. My eyes hurt so much. It's because I should be wearing my glasses but can't due to their non-existance. They should be in this week at some point but they can't come soon enought. They're really nice too, I wants my glasses....

The livejournal thing tells me it's been 4 weeks since my last entry.....I really thought it was longer than that but oh well. So, another semester of books galore and eventual sleepyness. I've got my four classes and I may do a little major/minor requirement math at the bottom, don't mind it.

Italian 202- The culture bit of our language requirement. We switched professors here, so far, the A and B sections of all our classes were taught by Perry but someone decided to flip it on us and now section B (me) has Iona Larco. I'm still not clear on how I'm going to take to this class. Through the Romanian/Italian accent, I can understand her pretty well so far but after three semesters of Perry, adjusting will be annoying.

The Civil War in the West- Not being a war girl myself, I'm a little worried about this class with my lack of knowledge in battles and commanders. I know Booz (the professor) is a good guy and really nice but he kinda freaked me out a bit in class with the whole calling on everyone and don't give a stupid answer thing. Everything about this class looks a little worrisome like the tests and final paper. It'll probably get better tomorrow but I know a lot of people in the class so it probably won't be too bad.

Historical Methods- I'm getting a strange feeling that this class isn't going to be as hard as previously thought, but that's probably very untrue. My professor seems aware of how hard this class supposedly is though which is comforting. We also don't have to do one of the giant projects that Methods is famous for, the Oral History....but we still have the book which is odd. She said that the class is going to be more theory based which may mean the list of historians making a comeback but we'll see.

Environmental Issues
- ::sigh:: My professor seems nice, the content seems like it has the potential to be interesting, however, my professor has a thing for group work. I hate group work. Ok, I don't hate it but I don't like group projects and group work being the main way of conducting things. I'm a history girl, I like my solitary readings and solitary papers, I don't like having to rely on someone to pull their weight. Oh well, we'll see.

On a less school-centric note, I saw Cloverfield on Friday with a bunch of friends. I enjoyed it, a lot more after my stomach calmed down, but in retrospect it was a good movie. Although, if you are planning to see it, sit farther up in the stadium seating, bring ginger ale, and don't be afraid to close your eyes. It functions very well on sound alone so you can usually tell when the monster is going to show up because there will be a lot of noise. If you get motion sick, you will, we had a group of eight, two did not feel sick by the end of it. In my opinion it's definitely worth seeing but I also think it's turning out to be very divisive, some love it and some hate it so who knows.

Well, I'm here, and by here I mean snuggled up under my comforters because I turned the AC too high at school. I've moved in now, which means everything I own practically is either on the floor or Ann's to-be-bed. I like my room fine, it's relatively big and has a bathroom (the last being the most important). But so far, it isn't really my room. I mean it is technically but nothing is put away and nothing is on the walls so it just doesn't feel like home. But that'll all change later today. I'm gonna drag a few people and we're going to swipe some lofting equipment and put it to my bed, then I will be able to store and switch around furniture as necessary. Then I can put stuff up. Also, my bookcase committed shelve suicide so I have to call facilities. And then I have to sew, and hope Sarah's machine works now or it's going to be an adventure in expletives.

This is going to be a major problem since I was counting on that work study to make up for this summer. ::sigh:: My dad's going to look over the fafsa and tax forms to see if there's anything we can protest. Most of all I want my work study back, I liked my job.

Blaph [06 Jun 2007|08:52am]
Howdy all, It's 8:54. Why am I up at 8:54 you may ask? Well, it's cause I got this silly buissiness of taking psychology over the summer into my head. The class is at eleven, add in the hour or so it takes to get there and we have, now, 8:55. So far it's actually quite boring, I've spaced a couple of times and even wrote a to do list during class but we start neuroscience today so it should get a bit more interesting. It doesn't help that I didn't take psychology that long ago, so they are still relatively fresh in my mind still.

Anyways, since apparently no one wants to hire me, I have been "hired" by my dad to be, as I like to call it, his work pony. He tells me to clean something, I do it, and get $50 a week. In other words, I am greatly anticipating my job at school going up to $7.15/hr and acumulating my money though those means.

Anyways anyways, I have also recently discovered the two Landmark theaters near me. Near being a relative term used to refer to near a metro station. One's in Bethesda and I think that's the one Udden talked about in class. It shows a bunch of the smaller movies and foreign ones that I've seen trailers for and now really want to see. It's exciting, I saw The Valet on Monday and am hoping to go see something like Once on Friday. That would be lovely. I also heard that they have vegan cookies, now that's unusual. It's also cheaper than the other theaters around me, $6.75 with tax. Of course I also have some mainstream movies to go see and there's a theater right by the metro too. Sweet.
